Green Onyx and Ormolu Four Glass Table Clock by Samuel Marti

~ French - Circa 1890 ~

~~ Excellent condition ~~

A decorative and chic antique French four glass table clock, made in the most beautifully figured green onyx and ormolu (fine gilded brass). The four bevelled glass sides allow the movement to be seen and the faux mercury compensated pendulum to be seen gently swinging within the case. The dial is cream enamel on copper, painted with delicate floral swags between the numerals. The interior of the case is also gilded.

The French movement is by Samuel Marti and has the makers 'Medaille D'Argent 1889' make on the backplate. It is of high quality and has the superior pin-pallet escapement and rack striking. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement in polished brass, it has silvered steel in the glass tubes instead of mercury. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a coiled gong. Click the video clip below to hear the gong and watch the clock running!

Condition of the case is excellent, ormolu is clean and bright with just some minor wear and tarnish in places. Onyx is also very good, there are a few slight nibbles and a small chip on the rear right hand corner. The glass panels have some slight scratches, some original air bubbles in the glass and two slight chips on the corners of the side panels. The dial is excellent with no chips or scratches.

Complete with pendulum and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

Dimensions of clock:

About us - All of our clocks are original antiques, we source most of our clocks in France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK. We prefer to buy our clocks in original 'dirty' condition. We then clean the cases using a technique we have developed over many years. We employee two qualified clockmakers who overhaul the movements. Movements are thoroughly tested until we are satisfied that they will run trouble free.
