I have one of those tips that I want to make a diy soldering pencil controller for but I can't seem to figure out the pin out, I can get it hot to melt solder but no useful reading from the thermocouple. Would you happen to know what the pin out would be? I assume the outer body is ground.

Hello Linuxgeek, I have a question.
I am very interstered by this very nice soldering station, I have used lot's of direct 220 V plug irons, and I would like to change my work station,
How much time duty life of this kind of tip? A tip costed 32 euros, and if a tip have a short life time, I think this pen is not good for me.
And how much kind of tips did you use for general uses? Thank you :)

@4002inch Depends on how much you solder. Half a year if you solder a lot. And it depends on the tip itself, the finer ones will give in quicker. I use only two different tips, but I wanted a depot tip as well... but this one costs even more ;)
