SEN. MCCAIN: (Laughs.)

MR. BROKAW: The next question does come from the hall for
Senator McCain.
It comes from Section C over here and it's from
Ingrid Jackson. Ingrid?

Question: Senator McCain, I want to know -- we saw that Congress
moved pretty fast in the face of a(n) economic crisis. I want to know
what you would do within the first two years to make sure that
Congress moves fast as far as environmental issues like climate change
and green jobs.

SEN. MCCAIN: Well, thank you.
Look, we are in tough economic times. We all know that. And
let's keep -- never forget the struggle that Americans are in today.
But when we can -- when we have an issue that we may hand our children
and our grandchildren a damaged planet -- I have disagreed strongly
with the Bush administration on this issue.
I traveled all over the world, looking at the effects of greenhouse
gas emissions. Joe Lieberman and I -- and I introduced the first
legislation, and we forced votes on it. That's the good news, my
friends. Bad news is, we lost. But we kept the debate going, and we
kept this issue to -- to posing to Americans the danger that climate
change opposes (sic).
Now how -- what's -- what's the best way of fixing it? Nuclear
power. Senator Obama says that it has to be safe or disposable or
something like that. Look, I've -- I was on Navy ships that had
nuclear power plants. Nuclear power is safe, and it's clean, and it
creates hundreds of thousands of jobs. And -- and I know that we can
reprocess the spent nuclear fuel. The Japanese, the British, the
French do it, and we can do it too. Senator Ob

  • obama is the best candidate. He is logical, intellegent, compassionate and more of a "regular folk" than mccain. I trust in obama. he has my vote.

  • It was a good question, but neither one answered it. The question pointed out how fast the economic bailout was pushed through congress and signed in to law. What would you do to make sure congress moves fast on addressing issues like climate change and energy?

McCain gets 0 points for nothing new.

Obama gets 1 point for explaining why its important.

Both could have acknowledged that it is in our countries best interest and he would point that out to congress. Listen to the questions.

  • I personally think that the way President Obama handeld that question was excellent, except it was a little more about .. degrading what Macane hasn't done to help then explaing what he will do to help.

  • I am not American but as the world attention channels more on the Presidency issues, I have actually been following the videos on various debates from Youtube and also found that the way Senator Obama has been very firm and focused. Without prejudice, I just feel kindda strong that Senator Obama could be the right choice and may win the election.

  • Dems & Reps are the same more than they're not. They have been bought out by corporations and have become their puppets. Don't expect the changes this country really NEEDS from either of these two flunkies.

  • my mistake it was actually "allright senator"

  • Brokaw seemed kind of bias towards Obama. He criticizes him for taking to much time then when McCain wants to make a rebuttal he goes "Oh ok"

  • obama will win this election, and i will vote for him, but he does not deserve it
