Jeff Williams from http://www.askjeffwilliams.com/ shows you Dogtown which sits just outside of Bodie along the virginia river. It was home to the first Gold strike on the eastern slopes of the Sierra Nevada's. • @desertdreg Would Benton Hills be too far away? (almost exactly on the Cal/Nevada border) south east of Dogtown, around the town of Benton. There was gold and silver there, and just loads of mining, mostly in the 1870's - 1930's.. There are tunnels everywhere, and you won't find any "no trespassing" signs for miles. You should have a metal detector. This was load gold, and you can go through the dumps for samples--which there are. This area sees very few people . . .

  • my speaker is out. are there any places open to recreational digging near dogtown?
