Jail Birds starts Tuesday November 17 8PM ABC1

Following on from the success of the award-winning ABC television series Choir of Hard Knocks, choirmaster Jonathon Welch is on a mission. He believes music can change lives and hes out to prove it.
Jail Birds is an inspiring four-part series. Its a journey of participation and transformation in an unfamiliar world and humanises those on the inside.
In an unprecedented move, Corrections Victoria has allowed Jonathon to begin a choir inside Tarrengower Prison, a minimum security womens prison in regional Victoria - the first time a documentary series has been filmed in a Victorian prison. The prison authorities and Jonathon share an objective: to build the prisoners self-esteem and improve their rehabilitative prospects. But can Jonathons song and dance routines have any lasting effect on these women? Can a simple choir experience change the re-offending rate of these women? Jonathon is confident but Corrections Victoria are not so sure. The result is an amazing journey for 23 women prisoners.
