It's Induction day for new plebe candidates at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. On July 1, 2010, 1,247 plebes arrived at the Academy for the beginning of four years of training on their way to (hopefully) becoming Naval officers. Here, we see a group of the plebes being trained on how to properly hold their "cover," aka their hats, as well as how to properly respond to anyone senior to them.
CNET reporter Daniel Terdiman stopped in on what is known as "I-day," or plebe induction day, on his Road Trip 2010 project.

@poolie626 Yeah, but Army Cadets, Navy Midshipmen, etc. are all considered members of the armed forces. Obviously, they aren't going to have the full responsibilities and benefits of, say, an active duty Marine, but they are still part of the military.

@TheLogan1156 not 100% if you were to get kicked out of a service academy, you don't get any military benefits, time in a service academy does not count as active duty time when you graduate. You're at the same standard and rank as being an ROTC cadet

@crumbutt If you're enrolled in the Naval Academy, you're a member of the military. You have a rank, and everything.

school is not the military.

@XiledSoviet I would say that both are equally difficult. The Naval Academy on one hand has over 100 years of tradition behind them, and the Air Force Academy is unique in that it's the least known of the big 3.
