"I'm so sorry I couldn't protect you from this. But I will do everything in my power to take care of you," I whispered so quietly I wasn't even totally sure she would be able to hear. "I promise. I promise." I sighed. It was me that I was trying to convince at this point. "I promise."
Suddenly she sat back up and threw her arms around me. She didn't say anything, but she didn't need to. We both knew that the action really did speak louder than any word could ever speak.
{Rebecca's P.O.V.}
Nick and I just stayed like that for awhile. Neither of us spoke any more. Neither of us needed to. All we needed was to hold each other and to know that we would both do anything we could to keep this moment forever. We were hugged so close into each other we could feel one another's heart beating, smell each other's scent, feel one another's skin against our own skin. And there was something very peaceful and comforting about that.
But, of course, the moment had to end. Soon there were more people in my small hospital room than I thought would be possible. Mom, Riley, Blake, Kevin, Joe, Nick, Denise, Kevin Sr., Frankie, Dr. Rosenberg, another doctor, Nurse Carol, who was a nurse who had been with my family every step of the way, and I were all crowded into the room. And no, it was not a party. The air in the room was serious, business-like even. Nick sat next to me on the bed, holding my hand. Mom was sitting on the edge of the bed by my head. Riley was sitting at the foot of the bed with Joe leaning next to her. Blake and Kevin stood up against the wall. Denise sat in the chair with Frankie on her lap, and Kevin Sr. stood behind the chair. Dr. Rosenberg sat in the other chair, and the other doctor and Nurse Carol stood next to her. The other doctor was introduced as Dr. Charleston who would help with a transplant should it happen.
"Okay, so as you all know, we took blood and all from everyone in the room besides Blake and the little man," Dr. Rosenberg said, smiling at Frankie.
"Why didn't you want mine?" Frankie asked.
"Because you're so young," Mom explained to him gently. "We're only gonna test you as a last resort."
"Okay," Frankie gave in. He was 7; he didn't really understand any of this.
"Well, it doesn't seem as though that will be necessary," Dr. Rosenberg said, looking at the file in her lap. "According to our primary tests, all 3 boys are decent matches. However, one is best, perfect actually."
"Really?" I said in complete disbelief. I had been convincing myself none of them would match. That way I wouldn't be disappointed if it happened. And either way, the thought of one of them being a perfect match never crossed my mind. I mean, what's the chances of that?
"We'll have to do some more extensive tests, but it's looking like a very good candidate for transplant for Rebecca."
"Which one of us is it?" Kevin asked.
Dr. Rosenberg looked down at the paper and then answered...

wow that was a much more dramatic ending than I normally do, but yep I'm leaving it there, mid sentence lol. Who is it? Will the transplant happen? Will it work?

It's very late and I'm incredibly tired so I'm not gonna do Waiting to Begin Again tonight. sorry but it's 2:30 in the morning here. I'll do it as soon as I can tomorrow but I gotta do a lot of shopping for college tomorrow as well. So yeah, sorry, but I'll do it as soon as I can.
