An opera, that is heard way too seldom. With all the meanigless vocal acrobatic bits that are presented to the audience it is a shame that this work of two exeptional artists like Hofmannsthal and Strauss is ignored. Deep, meanigful text and music. But maybe that´s the problem

sooooo marvellous this, i know this work quite well but this performance is something else! it gives the music such space and authority, and the sound is so clear and olympian - could you let us know who further info about the conductor and where/when the performance?

I've just discovered 'Helena'. I will never understand how Strauss managed to make such glorious music out of such a hopelessly weird libretto.

@cantanteporsiempre I can't help you. I was completly crazy about Strauss, when I wrote my comment year ago. Now I listen to Verdi mainly, who I discovered last summer.

@WagnerNietzsche Maybe is too complicated for the scene also, don´t you think?

@chrizosthemis Which one of those recordings you mentioned you consider it´s the best, or faithful to the spirit of Strauss music? Thak you!

Nice.Thank you.
Do you know other recordings of Helena? I know that is one studio recording with Jones, one live with Voight, and two live with Rysanek (Kleiberth and Krips). I would like to buy Kleiberth's Helena but I'm afraid that sound quality isn't good ( I can buy this recording from Opera d'oro). How do you think, Is it good choice? I can buy it also from Orfeo (better Sound) but it is too expensive.
