@ Tony...you guys should consider inspecting regular vehicles as well. I understand the safety issue. My husband is a trucker, over 3 mil under his belt, wrecked a truck to avoid hitting a woman head on while she was playing on her floorboard. HWY patrol made no effort to stop her. He could have died. His truck was DOT passed with flying colors. He was treated with disrespect. No ambulance called because it was too far out. Haven't a lot of faith in your system.

Truckers get hosed bigtime. They pay more....fair has nothing to do with it. And most DOT are alright. some are just power drunk wanna be real cops. Truckers are safe drivers. Watching out for idiot four wheelers is the real problem. Respect the truckers or forget your groceries. The railroad doesn't go every where. And with this bad economy, they have tripled their fines for petty issues. I say park all trucks for about 3 days. Stop them all. People would panic. Then learn fairness.

Cars pay taxes at the pump and trucks don't? Really? CMV's are targeted because they are trying to make a living and they are a political minorities.
Cars should be inspected just like trucks, 90% of all truck car wrecks has evidence the car caused or was at fault. Car drivers are far more dangerous on the road than truckers. It's time to beat up car drivers. The laws are made to drain the truckers pockets to make fat and happy politicians.

@ATSF1927 Just to clarify a couple things in your post - actually in Oregon in truck vs. car crashes, just over 50 percent of the crashes are the fault of the car driver. Money from weight mile tax and registration fees goes to fund transportation infrastructure and preservation in Oregon. Money from citations goes into the local court system and funds county/city services.

Tony - In Oregon, commercial vehicles don’t a state fuel tax, they pay weight mile tax. There are just two reasons for truck inspections. One, it’s a federal law that commercial vehicles are subject to safety inspections and as a federal partner, Oregon DOT enforces that law. Two, there is a direct correlation between safety inspections and reducing truck crashes.
