Every other month, young people from various religions such as Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Christianity gathers in the remote villages of Bangladesh to talk about how to live in harmony with each other and to pray for peace. This gathering is an initiative of the Taize brothers who gathers the youth of diversed faith in the different areas of the country.
Each gathering is usually facilitated by Sr. Zita Rema, SSMI, Supar Chisim, Rafael Nokrek and a Taize brother. On June 16-18, 2011, the gathering was in Christ the King Church, Nijpara, Birganj, Diocese of Dinajpur.
In this particular gathering, Bro. Blas Descallar, a Filipino Maryknoll Affiliate from Louisiana chapter joined the facilitating team. Before he started his mission in Bangladesh in January 2011, Bro. Blas joined the conference of PAX Christi (an international organization promoting for peace), and attended the retreat on "The Gospel of Non-Violence" given by the peace advocate Fr. John Dear, SJ. Both events took place in Chicago in July 2010. Being a graduate from a Jesuit University and an alumnus of the Jesuit Volunteers Philippines (JVP), he had been involved in peace initiatives. He took his Master of Pastoral Studies at Loyola University in New Orleans. He is a member of the International Association for Volunteer Effort (IAVE), Spiritual Directors International (SDI) and the American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC).
