In this scene its difficult to determine the villain. Mrs. Cheveley is a self-proclaimed opportunist who will stop at nothing to achieve her goals. Lady Chiltern on the other hand, is the ideal wife, but she is dreadfully quixotic. Her perception of the human condition is quite flawed in that she believes one to be either good or bad with no grey area. She's a true stone caster. Sir Robert can't even confide in his own wife, for fear of her misjudgment.
