"I, John Brown, am now quite certain that the crimes of this guilty land will never be purged away but with blood......Love him or hate him but you have to admit his statement was quite prophetic!

One can't really take the trolls seriously, those who call John Brown a murderer (in the pejorative sense), a madman, or what ever other negative terms they lay to him. He was a radical, a man who was willing to lay his life down for what was right. And yes, lay down the lives of those others as well. Firebrand, radical, martyr, hero. As Frederick Douglass said, "I was willing to live for the slave. John Brown was willing to die for him." Glory, Glory Halleluia! May he rest in peace.

Why anyone would want people to know they were related to madman Brown is a mystery. Practically everyone Brown was related to were crazy - that was established at his trial for treason. It would have been far better for our country had Lee's Marines shot Brown dead at the scene of his crimes.

I agree John Brown was a killer and a martyr. The Civil War resulted in part because his actions showed how deep the division was between North and South. Here (near Harpers Ferry) John Brown's raid was seen as the beginning of the war against slavery, which was a terrible crime of arrogance and greed and cruelty. I don't mean to argue but both points are true.
