I know there is audio problems at the end because I wasn't paying attention, but this is an IMPORTANT message for anyone who uses tea lights!

Tea lights usually are sold in bulk, but they hardly EVER say on the package that you SHOULD NOT BURN TEA LIGHTS WITHOUT A HEAT RESISTANT HOLDER!!

Tea lights liquefy the wax inside the little holder they some it and get VERY HOT, so whatever holder you have them in must also be RESISTANT TO HEAT, otherwise they WILL burn through the surface!!

There was a case where somebody left tealights on a television and it BURNED into the TV and caused a few people to go to the hospital from toxic smoke inhalation. D=

Last night at my ritual, I did not know this and I used my brass candle holders! Good thing it was snowing and I had water with me for such cases. I could have set fire to the campus on accident!

Use a heat resistant surface, such as stone or ceramics. And, if you do choose a metal candle holder, make sure THAT is placed on a heat-resistant surface! BE SAFE, GUYS!

Blessings!

  • I just got some brass candle holders myself, did you put the tea light directly into the candle holder without a glass cup? Just wondering, please let me know. Thank you. Glad you posted this and that you are safe. Blessings :)

  • @BrightBeginnings77 Yes, that's exactly what I did, and it was very stupid of me. Thank the Gods it was snowing! (We also were putting tiny strips of paper into the fire too, which didn't help!) Next time I will DEFINITELY be watching what the hell I am doing before I do something stupid! =) I think I'll have to look into glass holders to put INSIDE my brass ones.

  • Oh dear! I hope you didn't get hurt!

I usually use glass or ceramic candle holders for tea lights, and put them out with a snuffer. I'm actually quite whimpish when it comes to lighting candles. I will only use tea lights or votives. I'm scared of knocking tapers, dinner candles or pillar candles over. I happen to be autistic which also makes me very clumsy.

Once again, I hope you're unharmed and like you said, thank the Lord and Lady that it was snowing!!

    )O( xx

  • @dollydot123 Yup I was okay! But argh! I definitely have to watch the safety next time >>; Glass, ceramic holders for those are definitely the better option!

I actually prefer votives and pillars, but I didn't have any at the time, otherwise I would have used them!

  • You can put a little bit of sand in the bottom of the candle holder to keep the candle from getting to hot, or from keeping the candle holder from getting too hot.

  • @Sir4sissors That's a great idea (and an obvious one I didn't think of!) Thank you!

  • Wow. I heard LOTS of stories about fire during rituals (in both Pagan & Christian Churches)

But damn! I'm so glad you are okay.

  • @owlsandankhs Merry Meet again! I've been asking around & have some info I'd like to share w/you. Glass candle holders depending on the strength of a spell can break & shatter. It's happened to me many times & shortly after my spell starts to kick in. So be careful w/the glass holder. Now, on to the info, why not consider floating your dressed tea light in water? I checked to see if it will float & it works! You could then use a glass bowl or brass holders w/water inside. Hope this helps. BB
