What book is it?

Hum and Tum are written with the same vowel, but pronounced differently. Shouldn't you use the IPA (International phonetic alphabet) so that we have some way of remembering the sounds?

@Yaiyasmin I use 'tum' for my siblings younger to me and my friends...n 'aap' for elders to me or someone m talkng fr the 1st time.
I like ur idea of not basing it on age of a person...but in my case it is based on how well i know a particular person plus their age too :p. Here in India n if m nt wrng in other countries where Hindi or similar languages r spoken like Pakistan, elders are addresses as 'aap'. :)

@aNjEeTs I think basing it on age makes sense, but not on social status. But me personally since I don't know the language well, I will use aap for everyone until I have a better knowledge. It makes it simpler for me.
