This is probably the correct interpretation of the song, i.e. that Darius wrote it about someone else he knew. I've always thought of it, in the context of someone else having said some of those things to him once upon a time though ~ and he made it through :)

Great song.
I love that there's always hope in Darius's songs. Most guys would have written and sung a whiney, angst driven, indie song about their relationship in crisis.
