It's been a while since I heard this. Sounds even better than I remember it. This must be from early 1964. The usual thing to say is that Elvis was past his rock and roll heyday and was lost in Hollywood. It Hurts Me must be from around this time too, as good and as powerful as anything Elvis did. Elvis died when he went in the army, said John Lennon, and people repeat it as though it must be true. Tracks like this prove to me that he was getting better and better as a vocalist. Ethereal.

It was my last Christmas with both my parents when they got me a kiddie record player and this LP as my main present. Soon after, my parents got their real ugly divorce and screwed up life for me and my brother. This LP kept me sane and helped me escape the atrocities my alcoholic mother put me through. Elvis is more to me than just the King: he saved me many times from going crazy... When I die, the first I will do in heaven is ask to see Elvis to thank him and ask for my mom to forgive her...

This song always reminds me of my dad and the drives we took when I was a child. He is a big Elvis fan and this song is one of his faves :)
