  • Thanks Oliverpianista

  • Back in the olden days supermarkets/drugstores/hardware stores all had coin operated tube testers, they disappeared in the mid 60's.

  • @TheJomogogo

They sold tubes also. I wonder how accurate those tube testers were.

  • Rick.... do you have a link or source that I can view to learn how to clean the mechanical meter for a tube tester? It looks like the meter in my tester "sticks."

    Thanks, Tom

  • Hey Tom,

No I don’t right now, but I will look and see if I can find some. Instrument indicating systems on aircraft was my job in the Air Force.

    All tube test bad.

  • Coin operated tube testers? Never saw one that was coin operated.

  • Thanks Rick... I tried using the DeoxIT Degreaser Wash and that seems to have helped. I know that the springs and mechanisms need to be absolutely clean and therefore you cannot (or should not use) a cleaner/lube.

And thanks for the great videos!!!! Tom

  • Yep tube testers are useful. I think that the test gear should be more collectable than the radios. Because compared to the number of radios made, all test gear is far less in number. Good luck on the radios.
