Make your own stylus pen that works with the iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad.
Aluminum tube + common scrub sponge that's used for cleaning chrome, ceramic surfaces, dishes, etc.. It's light weight, durable , safe on glass surface, sleek, very responsive/sensitive to movement, and works great overall.

Cut the alu rod tubing to make several pens and insert the sponge piece into the end. Use a knife to shape the sponge end. Use an old pen cap to protect the tip when storing.

You can tell if you already have the right kind of sponge at home just by holding the sponge in your hand and moving the corner over the ipod surface.

Production note: Video shot with Nikon D7000; 1080p; audio track recorded using Blue's "Snowball" mic (just off screen) with Apple GarageBand on a Macbook Pro. Audio track synced with video using DualEyes software. Final video editing/titling/export with Adobe Premiere and Encoder.

  • That's great but does it work with a plastic screen protector on the lcd. how will it conduct.

  • @devilsonlychild

I have a protective film on my iPod Touch screen (zagg.com) and the stylus works fine.

  • Love your iphone case <3 thanks for the tutorial.

  • @SweetyKimmo

I ordered the front/back protective film through zagg(dot)com and used a photo of a classic Nikon camera for on the back. Excellent protection without added size/weight.

  • You can't just use your finger...?

  • @TightJeanKing

As an illustrator, I like to do some quick sketch ideas on the go (if I don't have pad and paper with me).

I mostly use the pen for sketching because I have far more control with the smaller point of contact and my finger is too thick to see where I'm drawing.

I use my finger for all other apps since it's more convenient and readily available. :-)
