Human rights activist Natalia Estemirova murdered in Russia || Amnesty International Canada

Chechen human rights defender, Natalia Estemirova, was found brutally murdered soon after she had been forcibly taken from her home on Wednesday morning.

Estemirova was investigating an alleged campaign of house-burnings by government-backed militias in Chechnya. She was well-known for her unwavering activism against impunity.

The Russian government has developed a poor reputation for allowing the abuse and murder of journalists and human rights defenders to go unpunished. Estemirova's murder takes place two years after investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya was assassinated.

im 4rm south africa and wen i hear nd watch things of this nature my heart crumbles, cos altho we do experience abuse of human rights in my country, i was not aware of the extent of the problem elsewhere..there is soo much corruption in governments in every country of the world, nd i believe this is the root of all socio-political problems, its govrnment officials greed of power nd money, but its no justification for the lewd and disgusting acts they carry out everyday..
