Unions are the best thing out there and the sole protection for workers. The unions are the only thing standing between corporations and the worker---they keep us from returning to a basic King and Serf fiefdom aka Corporate State an oligarchy of the Rich.

@nktank84 You got that right. It's all about the greed of the rich CEO's and the shareholders. Listen to the Beatles's song "Piggies". It is about the filthy greedy rich assholes.
-
@MrAlsfan5 Amen to that. The CEOs still got their bonuses after the bailout too. But nobody wants to blame them eh. Nobody wants to blame the billionaires who move jobs overseas to make another billion. They blame the man that just wants a decent wage and send his kids to college.
-
@RAMSEYDAX You're absolutely right. The growth of unions made America that greatest nation on earth. The decline made America, well take a look around you. Then thank Reagan and the republican party.

Unions unfortunately can also bring jobs to an end permanently for those they are supposedly trying to protect. In Toronto, city garbage collectors unwittingly shot themselves in the foot when they went on strike for a month in the heat of summer. People got so fed up they voted in a mayor who promised to privatize.. sure enough he is doing just that. Myopia is dangerous. Everyone is replaceable. Unions are not untouchable. Now Canada Post is striking its way into redundancy too.

@iceberg1966 And yet when the auto companies went to D.C. for the bailout money the execs flew in on their private jet and were rightfully told that if they had private jets, maybe they didn't need bailout money. The money grubbing CEO's and the equaly greedy pig shareholders are more to blame than the workers.

@sparky427 Have you seen how much american cars cost 4,000 ball n chain on a 30,000 average vehicle. No greedy CEO's and General Mangagers who wanted more in there own pockets cut the pay down to $40 hr and that is not what they where paid that was including insurance, pension, 401k reinversement. So if you was forced to work seven days a week and the company wanted to cut your pay in half even though they was profiting that is ok? They had every right to make GM go under. Investers suck.

Keep up the fight people have no ideal what they are doing to this country picking on the unions. The rich are cheap money pinchers the middle class buy everything american made. Union memebers rarely ever shop at Wally mart we buy american made. Wallmart free market destroyed small business not unions. Also the last few Republican presidents.

@iceberg1966 im union and have a college degree thanks to my union so i think saying union members are un educated is not fair
-
@iceberg1966 : The $75 per hour was mis-information by Fox News and other right wingers. The truth was that union auto workers did earn about $29 an hour; non-union auto workers earned close to that.
In a union shop all workers are treated the same. It management's job to discipline; and the union's job to make sure that the discipline is fair to everyone.
-
@sparky427 : Labor costs are 10 percent of the cost of the vehicle. You can put a identical U.S.-built car along side of an import--at vastly different labor costs--in the dealership showroom, and the price is the same. Think about it.
Unions are good if they are controlable. If not then they are nothing but trouble.
