Iran & Iraq do not share any body of water in between them to be called GULF!! It is a river as it is shared by both countries. The invasion of KU8 was not named but kicking Iraq out of KU8 was called PERSIAN GULF WAR and when US invaded Iraq the name was PERSIAN GULF WAR 2

@alifreedom1 , Gulf war 1 was iran and iraq, when iraq invaded kuwait, that was gulf war 2.. check your references.

This was the 1st stage on the road to Se'ol 1988. On 1987, FIFA didn't allow Iran to host any international games due to the Gulf War I, So both teams agreed to play both games in Qatar. First game considered as Iran was the host and Iran won 2/1, a week after, they played again as Kuwait was the host. Faisal El-Dakheel came as subsititue on the 2nd half. Maybe this penalty wasn't that fair but the refree missed a couple of others for Kuwait. So I think he just wanted to make it up for them..
