I do however agree that I don't think the world was "Going to end" on the Year 2000, BUT, referring to my last comment, I think that if we didn't do anything to prevent the Y2K number interpretation issue, that it could have made life very difficult.

Remove banking systems, and Electricity, from operation for example, and see how fucked up the world would have gotten in a matter of days. (People panicking, not knowing if it would ever come back up)
