the Maple Leaf.
sigh. It was imposed on Canada without a referendum by a grubby government.
But its symbols stand true to the same concept as the traditional flag of the Dominion: the variations of the Red Ensign.
I apologise so many of my countrymen are errant asses.

you are a disgrace to your country! the flag is fine..except the sun showing the illuminated ones are here and in control lmfao! a 5 year old could do a better job on a new flag! sticking triangles for mountains screams illuminati..i know we are all under there control but seriously stop using there symbols! i agree mountain should be on the flag and a small sun in the corner somewhere..and the union jack for you who have no clue! where do you think the people came from ..we are tied to them!

Yes I'm a detractor who also objects to the change from the Red Ensign to the Maple Leaf. But not just because that change was part of an agenda against our country's profound British foundations – the Maple Leaf Flag was also an exercise in minimalist abstraction. It looks like a corporate logo too! It reminds me of the company logo for Nabisco, the breakfast cereal maker.
I think that I trust drunk Anglophile loggers at a pub more than a bland, correct, graphic designer's mindset for a flag.

This is interesting, but I think that your design looks more like a gov't logo than a flag. Now that you have described our flag as the product of four rounds by colonial clerks at a pub, I like it even more. Better for it to be a busy, glorious, archaic mess than a slick, corporate-looking logo. And you are being disingenuous about “keeping the idea of British heritage.” There is no obvious trace left of the Union Jack or the crown although our law, language and head of state come from Britain.

I like the first design. Leave out the maple leaf.

Eh, the new flag is still kinda busy, and the colours don't really blend well. I like the variation with the Union Jack, though.
But what do I know? I'm an Ontarian.

Make the sea light blue and you got yourselves a winner.

i like it its so BC ! Currently its so busy and the union jack is to ...loud , great job

Australia did not change its flag where did you get that impression from?

@PatchesRips I'll have to check that on wikipedia.
and islands territory only extends for like 5 miles around the island themseleves. imho that needs to be redefined. I hope that clear that up, sorry mate, been busy trying to find a job and kinda lost the plot there.
Thanks for a thoughtful comment. Actually, I agree. Something seems to go slightly off-topic once the mountains are added, and I'm inclined to think that I should remove them, and retain only the setting sun behind the wavy sea. Watch this space.

not bad not bad, imho though your should just use one of the cascadia flags, and even change the name BC to cascadia.

Interesting idea -- British Columbians certainly have more in common with people in Washington state and Oregon than with Alberta, for example -- but that's a whole other discussion. What I'm proposing doesn't require secession from Canada or the US...

@therealqualum who said secession? I say just rename BC Cascadia.
your flag is good, I will give it proper consideration, frist I have to discuss with my soul mate.
I was thinking of doing something like this with the Bermuda flag too, if Bermuda joins Canada which it should, along with St. Pierre and M, Alaska, and Greenland.

@KangaKucha
My vote goes for Turks & Caicos joining. Thanks for your support.

At the risk of repeating myself:
1. I am an ex-Brit myself, and far from wanting to deny British heritage, watch with dismay at how many Canadians are happy to erase any distinctions between themselves and Americans in their accent, spelling and mindset. (See Scots on how to preserve a distinctive identity while living next to a powerful neighbour)
2. What I object to is bad design, not the Union Jack.
3. If this proposal is so objectionable, do its detractors also object to the Maple Leaf?
