Tokyo is covered by a dense network of train, subway and bus lines, which are operated by about a dozen different companies. The train lines operated by JR East and the subway lines are most convenient for moving around central Tokyo.

Tokyo's most prominent train line is the JR Yamanote Line, a loop line which connects Tokyo's multiple city centers. The city's 13 subway lines are operated by two companies and run largely inside the Yamanote circle and the areas around Ginza and Shitamachi.   • oh my God. This is soooo complicated. Many companies, many directions, many type of tickets, not enough of this, in the same place are different types of train. My God, only Japanese can make it more complicated. Complicated grammar and writings and more complicated ways to go. Super complicated city Tokyo. I think in 21c they could invent same app for mobile phones, or device (like GPS car navigator) to navigate through all this madness.

  • I know it must be like this, with so many people living, but this video show how shocking can be so "simple" task in a such big Asian city just to go form point A to B. Thanks for the video anyway.
