  • I really find it disrespectful to hear you say that. This Master is over 83. He was highly thought of by other Grandmasters on the island. I'd like to see you at 83 doing kata or walking for that matter, that is, if you make it that far.

  • Good to see the older karate teachers of Okinawa still participating. Thank goodness there are some few (relatively) people still interested in perpetuating the old arts rather than competing in tournaments, boosting their own egoes or playing others for money by promoting fraudulent, poor copies.

  • Unfortunately Nagamine Sensei passed away at the age of 90 in 1997. A great loss.

  • is this really Kata Wantan?? nothing like Wantan at all

  • Sorry, never heard of a kata called Wantan. Wankan, or Okan as it is sometimes called translates to 'Little Kings Form', I believe. You can find this info in Nagamine Sensei's book or the book 'UNANTE' by John Sells.

  • Jeeze I always thought he'd look way better than that with his kata's with how my Shihan has talked about him. Eh, I guess he IS old. Still cool though.

  • He was 83 when thi eas filmed.

  • the man was in his 80's. Think about how many men in their 80's you know that can still perform an advanced Kata.

  • @Shooter16a2 王冠 - "King's Crown." Wankan in Uchinaguchi, Oukan in Japanese.

The Shito Ryu variation is almost completely identical, save for the last movement, but is called Matsukaze "Pine Wind" 松風

Undoubtedly because the Matsu is the same pronunciation as the Sho/Matsu in Matsubayashi Ryu, very interesting history behind the name change, I'm sure.
