...and just think, an entire generation of Russian Jews and non-Jews was deprived from a pleasure to hear live performances of the song & could not buy even a record or, in the later days, a cassette with thsi song and many other Jewish songs recorded.When some Jewish singers sang the song for a small private audience, people wept.What a tragedy for millions of people, both Jews and gentiles, to be deprived even of one masterpiece!

I love this song in all its renditions. This is the best english version I have heard.
It brings tears to my eyes remembering my blessed loving mother. May she rest in peace.

oh, i love this version of this song. I don't know where you are from martha, but tom jones and australian singer john farnham did an a capella version of this song on a tv show, and i can't find it anywhere! but this is just as good. :)
