In 1958, Orson Welles made a half hour documentary about Italy, with famous guests like Vittorio de Sica (see part 2) and Gina Lollobrigida. Apparently it was rejected by ABC and a disappointed Welles left the only copy of the film in Hôtel Ritz in Paris, where it was rediscovered in 1986.
On 24 March 1994 it was broadcasted by German channel ZDF (English spoken, German subtitles).

  • Interesting documentary! One correction for the notes: it's not Vittorio De Sico, but Vittorio De Sica.

You are absolutely right, thanks for informing me. I have corrected Vittorio's name.

  • gina, you are lovely!!!

  • orson is sort of playing himself thoughout, it's almost absurd but very very good

  • bellísima !

  • Excellent stuff. I think the documentary was Welles' strongest suit -- just check out _F for Fake_, if nothing else.
