This year we mark the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, a day that forever changed the United States of America. On July 22nd, the United States Senate unanimously passed a resolution sponsored by New Jersey Senator Frank Lautenberg establishing a National Moment of Remembrance at 1:00 p.m. EDT on September 11, 2001 to memorialize the September 11th terrorist attacks with the ringing of bells and sounding of sirens and the observation of one minute of reflection.
At the September 6th City Council meeting, Council President Mike Renegar sponsored a resolution to support and participate in the National Moment of Remembrance here in the City of Prattville. The Council unanimously passed this resolution.
"We cannot do enough to remember those who lost their lives on that day and to honor their memory. We must strive to continuously show our appreciation to those in the military as well as first responders who protect our lives and our freedom each and every day," said Council President Mike Renegar. "Please join us in this moment of remembrance as we humbly pay tribute to those who gave all on this tragic day in American history."
The City of Prattville Fire Department's honor guard will post at the flagpoles in front of City Hall at 12 Noon on Sunday, September 11th to conduct a last alarm ceremony. Prattville Police Department personnel, additional Fire Department personnel, and local elected officials will join them. At the conclusion of the last alarm ceremony, emergency responders will sound sirens to complete this moment of remembrance.
"The City of Prattville has the distinct honor of being the only city, at this moment, in the State of Alabama to be participating in this event," stated Mayor Bill Gillespie, Jr. "I would personally like to thank Senator Lautenberg for extending to us the opportunity to honor this day in this manner. Please join us as we honor these American heroes."
