I thought it would be fun to gather some random clips from my practice session today and make a video for YouTube. Some of it is older stuff that has been touched on in previous clips and some of it is new stuff. I'll give a little desription in on each clip in the order they appear in the video:

1. Playing over a flam pattern with my feet.

2. A fill I enjoy playing, nothing too fancy.

3. Paradiddle against double paradiddle layering.

4. Messing around with some quick patterns, there are a couple slipups here and there. :-)

5. Playing some broken odd 16th note groupings with my feet, The pattern is RLR LRL RLRLR LRL RLR LRLRL. This is something I'm working on as I find it quite difficult right now, it starts to get a bit sloppy near the end.

6. Nanigo.

7. A little exercise I do to help get my left hand up to speed with my right. This time I played it over Derek Roddy's famous "I, Monarch" pattern although I do practice it over many different foot patterns. It seems to be helping quite a bit!

8. Just playing around with dynamics and some groove. There are a couple mistakes which affect the fluidity of the playing. I enjoyed how this clip turned out regardless.

9. Thanks go to Cjcdrums for turning me on to hertas! Although I was inspired quite some time ago by one of his videos, I just started practicing these things yesterday but I felt the progress was reasonable enough to post a clip.

10. Playing in 5 with the hands and trying to get different patterns in underneath with my feet. Some of them work with the hands and sound good, some don't.

11. 13/16 over 5/16. Makes for a nice full sounding groove on the toms, not to mention a great independence exercise for people starting to get into odd time signatures!

Enjoy!

  • thats the highest set ride iv ever seen

  • Yeah, I find it really comfortable up there! It's not for everyone though!

  • what kinda throne is that o_o

  • There are two answers to that question. In large text the throne reads "Gibraltar" but underneath that text it says "Roc-n-Soc".

I guess it was made for Gibraltar by Roc-n-Soc. It's a great throne!

  • is the the 7th trumpet breakdown your playing by august burns red at the begining, its 2's over 3's so it might just be coincidence

  • Hmmm, never heard of that band. Definitely coincidence! :-)

  • at first i thought you were a POS but props man you have something interesting are those neumann overs?

  • Your going to have to move your set over, cause' Im bringing mine and moving in! Haha

  • I didn't expect this! good stuff mate very good. I know you know that :P

At 38, are they doubles or some sort of pattern?

  • 2:57 awesome!!!.....( :P)

  • as if at 4:43 i hadn't salivated on myself yet...i think i crapped my pants when you played those kick hertas at 6/8, then do a metric modulation to 4/4, crazy man...just crazy.

  • Monstrous kit. How long did it take you to collect it all? And how much all together? Who is the manufacturer of your second snare? Are you a thomas lang fan? Guy seems like a douche but is technically astounding.

Keep up the limb interdependence work! Sounding classy!

  • at 4:44 thats like a variation on bleed by meshuggah

  • Damn! I'm doing work experience at a drum store this week and when I'm cleaning the pedals I sit on that throne. It's like heaven! I think I'm going to buy it.
