  • have you ever made a dog collar ?

  • @maximumbullieskennel

Yes, in fact I did. See 7th minute of Part 2 How to make a leather belt video. It is shown right there

  • Thank you for taking the time to share your hobby. I found it very interesting and had hoped to make a belt for my husband. However, now I know there are quite a few tools that I would need to do a good job of it. Do you, by any chance, sell the belts you make? Thanks, again!

  • @sjranch6 Hey, thanks for your comment... The tools are not the only things needed for a good job.

If you really start making belts I have to warn you quite a few of your first efforts will be visibly lacking the quality you could be proud of. And it is perfectly normal. As your experience grows you will be getting better.

Sometimes I do belts for other people for different reasons and occasions - if you supply an email adddress I will get you the details.

  • a very interesting video I would have liked to see how you burnish the edges of the belt

  • @deakinharry

This is a very hot topic in fact... This alone could make or break a great belt... I guess I should make a special video as concerns burnishing the edges but the topic is so huge, really it's intimidating. Maby a few parts long...

  • @dartemov thank you

  • You have to sandpaper the edges, then seal them with edge sealant/dye, then sand paper again with a finer grit and so on until it is perceived as perfect

  • Thanks for commenting. First, there is a reason this kind of leather is used for belts.

Second, most of the multilayered belts (2 at least) are lacking functionality. Third, most of what I have seen of these multilayerd belts are stitched with a machine. While it's ok to use mechnical means for mass production there is little reason to do that for a hobby. But most important still is the lack of functionality.

  • Nice vids ! Can you tell me how to line a belt with a thinner, softer leather ?
