The magnet or "wand" provided for changing marker lights or turning sound off and on (as provided with Australian locomotives including the Eureka AD60 and 620/720, and the Trainorama 49, as well as various other locomotives from overseas I'm sure) is remarkably strong. I wanted to see if it could pull a train. The magnet attaches itself to the metal pin beneath a standard Kadee #5 coupler - the contact area is miniscule, around the size of a pin head. So far, I've not found out just how much it will pull . . . but it has already blown my expectations away.
The train you see in the video stayed together, with the magnet right behind the locomotives being the only link between the locos and the wagons. Despite accelerating, braking, and going up and down hills for over half an hour, it has not yet released . . .
