My heart is hurting so much, I saw Bruce and the E Street Band in 1984 in Houston,TX, and Clarence Clemmons was such an Icon, he was amazing, he just went with whatever Bruce was doing, I am so sorry he died way too young, I am truly heartbroken over this, May he rest in peace forever, Michele.

Bruce Springsteen is one of the greatest live perfomers ever. He is known for that. His voice is just very gruff, strong, and raspy. If you want smooth and silky -- no he's not the one but that's what his fans love. That strength, gruffness, and raspiness spells masculinity and helps his songs about strong social issues get across. I love Bruce Springsteen and this song.

Not saying this song is bad, on the contrary... I am sure its a very patriotic song for Americans... But, with all due respect... This guy just cant sing live!!!!
Sounds great when its recorded in a studio... But, gosh, he just kills the song by singing it for a live audience!

The thing that makes great art great, is that it's a lot of different things to a lot of different people. It isn't only about what the artist may have intended.
This song is so patriotic! People say it's not, but it is...
He's expressing his feelings about what the American citizens go through, and the forgotten vets.
he's letting the government know about themselves!
This is the most patriotic song ever written, but in an ironic way.
