The CBC needs to focus on its main mandate, which is to serve Canadians not already served by mainstream broadcasting. With that being said there should be minimal, or no funding to keep it on as an arts based broadcaster. If it is there to serve the people of the north or rural areas without regular broadcasting outlets, then let's keep it going. Otherwise, let it support itself like private broadcasters.
And I am not a Kelly Block supporter... quite the opposite.

@yugo69 The reason i said like North Korea is because all the communist countries have a state broadcaster but many free countries don't . There are many places to get your news from rather then Robert Murdoch and he has nothing to do with this conversation asshole .
-
@yugo69 Canada should not be in the media business like North Korea and we don't have 1 .3 billion to waste on the CBC
-
@BoredomCorner You mean the F 35's that Iggy and Layton voted for ?
-
@hanksnow82 How much do those F-35s lemons cost, nowadays? About $150 billion?
-
@hanksnow82 Try me again when the HarperCons don't want to waste even more money, on planes that don't work.
-
@hanksnow82 By that logic, why is the government funding church groups?
-
@imN0Ttheone And that's why they go after the NDP a lot too, right?
Mansbridge practically rolled out the red carpet for Harper, by the way.
-
@yugo69 I suppose it would be more accurate to say the CBC has been campaigning against the Conservatives then for the Liberals. As most relize the NDP is the CBC first love but even they relize the NDP will never been elected federally . The CBC is horribly biased as well as a waste of tax dollars . Try googling (CBC Ombudsman Admits Liberal Bias)

@yugo69 How is dumping 1.3 billion a yr into a corporation that competes directly against the private sector not a money pit . You want a channel that makes you think try The National Geographic or History channel they don't have the left wing bias and are not sucking on the government teet . If you think FOX or MSNBC are responsible for the polarization in America you missed the Viet Nam , Nixon , Reagan , Clinton eras where America was even more divided .
When did it become acceptable to not discuss issues during an election campaign? What I particularly like is that you challenged Kelly Block to be accountable during one of Harper's orchestrated attempts during this election. This is a brilliant example of participatory democracy!!! Does Kelly Block think that you don't know the Parliament is in Ottawa???

@hanksnow82 Being cut off from the public 'teet' would inherently defeat it's purpose; to not have corporate influence, and to create programs that are educational and informative rather than glitzy, addicting and competing for a monopoly. Over a billion dollars works out to about 33 dollars per person per year, yet ridiculous amounts of people are paying more than that per month to become satellite subscribers, watching zombifying programs that are making the masses dumber by the minute.
