Police Brutality: Cop Shoots, Kills Unarmed Drunk!

EVERETT, Wash. —
Snohomish County prosecutors have charged an Everett police officer with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of an intoxicated man outside an Everett restaurant. Officer Troy Meade was charged last fall with first-degree manslaughter in the June 10 death of Niles Meservey. On Thursday, prosecutors added the more serious charge.

The 41-year-old officer remains free as he awaits trial scheduled next month. In court papers, the 11-year police veteran indicates he'll maintain the shooting was in self defense.

Meade was not immediately arraigned on the new charge. His lawyer, David Allen, says he thinks prosecutors lack probable cause to charge Meade with murder.

The shooting happened as Meade was trying to get the drunken man out of his car. The 51-year-old Meservey was shot seven times as he sat at the wheel of his car in a parking lot.

Meservey's family has filed a claim against the city of Everett, demanding as much as $15 million.
