Should this be a blueprint to prosecute US President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard "Dick" Cheney? Did they violate their oath entering office? Did they violate laws, commit perjury, obstruct justice, violate public trust, and violate American principles of government and justice.
Maybe Cheney and Bush should be prosecuted like a Black man caught violating his oath, lying, and obstructing justice.
Kym L. Worthy, Wayne County Prosecutor in the Kilpatrick case is just great in all that she had to say. I'd love to see her as the prosecutor barbecuing Bush and Cheney. Her speech should be a rallying cry for those sick of public corruption wanting the elected official misconduct to stop, doling out proper punishments.
Excerpt:
Today, on March 24, 2008, Kwame Kilpatrick became the first Detroit [Michigan] mayor to be charged with a crime while in office.
As Kilpatrick himself put it in his interview last week with Bankole Thompson of the Michigan Chronicle: "The kind of thing that's going on now, I don't think we as a city have seen before."
True that. There is no template for what is happening because it has never happened before. Of the 57 mayors (some served more than once) going back to when Detroit began electing mayors in 1824, only a couple ran afoul of the law, but not until after they had left office.
In 1940, a former mayor, Richard Reading, was accused of having conspired while in office with 80 Detroit cops to protect a $10-million-a-year numbers racket. He pleaded guilty and served three years in prison. MORE, here:
