my 1988 Pontiac Fiero exhaust. new converter, new 2 1/4 piping out the back with chrome tips and no muffler. i had the converter changed because the original was rusted and after it was removed looking in the inlet the inside had fell apart and was blocking a lot of flow. i wasnt very loud before without the muffler, but the new converter woke it up a lot. its loud, but not to bad. i think it sounds great when its started and idling after warm up, but can be a bit to loud in the higher RPM range. over all, i think it was worth the money spent.

  • I just found out that removing the muffler while keeping the cat installed is completely CA smog legal which is a definite plus. The only thing they can really tag you for is the sound.

  • @ckkbleev i bet they would, but im in LA and from GA....we dont worry about those kinds of things to much. we dont even have emission testing

  • @javojjaaf That's the only thing that sucks about living in CA. I can't quite tell from the video, but how loud is it? Is it loud enough to get pulled over?

  • @ckkbleev i would say yes it is, its just not CRAZY loud. how much is a fine? may be worth a try....

  • Wow that sounds great! So, just to clarify, that's a stock 2.8L V6 with a new catalytic converter and no muffler?

  • @ckkbleev correct, and thanks!

  • @javojjaaf I'm not sure how much the fine would be for loud exhaust but really anything over 92db is illegal here in CA. The main problem for me would be finding a place that would be willing to remove the muffler for me.

  • @javojjaaf Anything louder than 92db is illegal here in CA. I think the only problem would be finding a muffler shop that would be willing to mod my exhaust for me.
