Bit of playing around on my gorgeous Meinl djembe. Sounds amazing, such variety of tones! Recorded on my HTC Desire HD - proper video camera hopefully coming soon!

  • That's very nice! One can tell you have experience in percussion in general. I just picked up the djembe about a year ago, only percussion instrument I've touched, I have a really nice 13in mahogany/goatskin from Burkina Faso. I have been trying to get out of the typical 4/4 beats of rock and stuff into more jammy kinda beats, such as the one in this clip. Is it (not to say simple) Simply that you play like quarter beats with your left hand? Maybe you can help me out!

    Thanks and I Enjoyed!

  • @turfdynes Thanks very much! Your djembe sounds nice! Get some recordings done buddy! I guess in my normal playing with a full kit I try and do as much off the beat as I do on it so i just condense that down into accents on different parts of the djembe whilst keeping the old 1/4 or 1/8ths going. Sounds ambitious but I guess i try and fit the whole kit onto one drum and do with my hands what I'd do with my hands and feet. That's the idea, I just feel a rhythm and interpret it.

  • unbelievable. how many years did you trained?

  • @bolec123123123 I've never been properly trained for hand percussion. I've been playing drums for about 11 years and was taught by various people for the first 4 years. Thanks very much though! :)

  • Hi. Great percussion - thanks for sharing this. I am thinking of buying one of these Meinl djembes. Does the one you play in the video have a 13 inch diameter head? Thanks.

  • Amazing! You are so talented to be able to make one drum sound this good! Well done xxx

  • Sorry to say that man but that's not a drum!

Try to listen a bit at africans rythm. Listen at Babara bangoura or Dramane Konate, Zoumana Dembele, Dabou Dembélé...

Keep playing man! Your a good player, but you have to change a bite your rythm's :)

    (sorry for my bad english)

  • Dangit! I had myself talked out of wanting a djembe, and now I see this video and want one again! :) Very cool, looks fun!

  • Brilliant playing - it amazes me what you can do with one drum! Let alone a whole kit! xx

  • all i can say is that your showing off lol
