Since posting the review of the Godin - multioud, I have done some more experimenting with recording it as a purely acoustic instrument.

I think the instrument has also benefited from a bit of a breakin period as I think the sound has improved in the months that I have had it.
Here it is recorded with an Apex 460 tube mic and Rode NT2a into an ART TPS preamp.

Then Processed slightly in Cubase 5 with the native plugins - Reverence, and vintage compressor.

  • this recording was made with no amp. It sounds surprisingly good I think.

When you plug it in to a decent amp or DI for recording it also sounds great, read about the very sophisticated fishman preamp that is in this oud. It has a computer chip that sort of takes the peizo signal and filters it through a "sound image" to create a sort of model of microphones. I recently went to a jam with a bunch of acoustic musicians, on its own it was not loud enough for that and I had to plug in..

  • can you play it without plugging into an amp? is it fine to play completely acoustically?

  • Very nice playing and taqsim. thanks for sharing! i don't think this the athar kurd maqam. sounds more like nahawand/busalik on D. (Athar Kurd on D would be D - D# - F - G# - A - Bb - C# - D - Nawa Athar with a raised second).

  • Great sound and amazing playing! Thank you for this beautifull music.

  • this is not kurd this is nahawand
