Havana was founded in 1519 by the Spanish. By the 17th century, it had become one of the Caribbean's main centres for ship-building. Although it is today a sprawling metropolis of 2 million inhabitants, its old centre retains an interesting mix of Baroque and neoclassical monuments, and a homogeneous ensemble of private houses with arcades, balconies, wrought-iron gates and internal courtyards.

  • Just so people know, they now have the newer Chinese made buses for transportation. I don't think many of those old buses pulled by big rigs are in use much but maybe in the less populated cities or countryside. They are replacing them. To bad the United States cannot do business. I'm sure they would like a piece of that action. Instead we have a silly embargo in place while we do a lot of business with Vietnam and China without a care in the world.

  • Just so people know, if it was not for the Venezuelan government of Hugo Chavez, these old cars would not be on the road. He has traded cheap oil in exchange for cuban doctors and food. A deal that benefits both countries, no matter what anyone says. Venezuela helps other countries.

  • Thank you for saying we are great people.

I have seen the buildings across the street from the beautiful Capitolio featured in this video and they look very different.

I call it a sanitized version because it does not show the crumbling ruin that is Havana.
