China Olympic Official Showcase "Journey of Harmony"

When the Chinese Olympics Committee unveiled various facilities for the upcoming 2008 Summer Olympics, Western press coverage of the upcoming event and of Chinese domestic affairs became increasingly prevalent. The Beijing Olympics marks the People's Republic of China's emergence as a global power whose potential for commercial expansion imminently threatens the United States' current dominance in global economics and politics.

At the same time, the Beijing Olympics is a double-edged sword: not only does it serve to broadcast China's economic transformation to the world, but it also exposes the underlying problems which have been largely overlooked with China's oppressive government. It is a shame that as the host country of a momentous event, which millions of viewers worldwide will watch, China has failed to provide remedies for, or even to acknowledge, the many controversies against which the international community has long protested.
