If Knickerbocker beer was so great, how come it's out of business?
Ironically, the Giants kicked the Yankees out of the Polo Grounds. By the time the Giants moved out of New York entirely, the "ABC: Always Buy Chesterfield" sign on the center field scoreboard had been replaced by a "Have a Knick" ad... and Knickerbocker was owned by the Ruppert brewery, which also used to own the Yankees!

A TWO-MINUTE commercial! I hope no sponsor reps see this clip and start to get ideas!

@LbNaCl - Agreed. Also, with SA's later social conscience, it's odd to see him drink beer on-air for that reason.

Fascinating! I knew that Steve Allen began the Tonight Show for local NY TV - before it WAS the Tonight Show. To see this clip is AWESOME! Thanx.

Great clip but what is that thing in the lower right corner with the red light?

0:43.. (Homer Simpson dreamily slurs) .""Hops with the bloom of youth....aaaahhhhhggghhhhh....

One night when he did this commercial, he took a swig of beer and deliberately said Chase and Sanborne's catch line, "Man, that's coffee!"
People talked about that for weeks after.

My parents drank Knickerbocker when I was a child. It was brewed by the Ruppert family, one of whom used to own the Yankees in the Ruth era.

"Less Filling- More Delicious" 20 years before Miller Lite.
This was from Steve's late-night New York show [WNBT] in 1953-'54, on from 11:20-12am(nyt), after the news and just before Channel 4's "Midnight Movie"- sponsored by Ruppert's "Knickerbocker Beer" (of which Steve delivered a lot of commercials for his primary sponsor). A VERY rare kinescope, indeed!
