I think this can be easily done by creating a widget c_ as the child of the main window widget w_ without adding c_ to the w_'s layout. And then reimplement c_'s mouseEvent handlers.

Very good! But put frames around the windows. A little slow though and it looks a little bit like an example from the 90s... ;)
