  • fuckinghell thankyou!! ive had heard so many times folk say that gender is nothing to do with sexuality and it really confused me, i could not see how that was so!! xx

  • @ceridawn It's just not cut & dry like that. We separate gender & sexuality for the purpose of explaining to non-trans people that our sexuality doesn't dictate our gender. However, when you look at it in the perspective that *gender* dictates our *sexuality* (not who you are attracted to, but the sexuality that others label you with i.e. I am a man, I date men, therefore I am gay) then you see how they are ridiculously intertwined.

  • @Popeslave oh right do you mean that the reason they say that is because for instance a person in a womans body who feels like a man but is attracted to men but does not feel heterolsexual therefore in that instance the persons physical gender is seperate from their sexuality, is that what you mean? I think it has has just dawned on me, my gender really has nothing to do with my sexuality.

  • @ceridawn Exactly.

  • i know that being perceived as female, i don't want any intimacy/sex at all with a guy. but i know that i've thought a little about how my feelings about it might change when they perceive me as a guy. as if it was the gender dynamic of me being the girl of a heterosexual relationship that ultimately made me uncomfortable, obviously because of my own gender identity. i somehow doubt i'll ever pursue anything with a guy once i've transitioned... because i do very much love women, but i'm open...

  • I think that makes sense. I knew I liked guys but all I ever had was horrible experiences (whether by feeling humiliated or just by being rejected). Women never made me feel that way so for several years I just assumed I had figured out what the "problem" was and I was pretty content being with women. Then I started to explore my gender and was able to more accurately understand where my desires came from and where I was headed. I think it's different for everyone though. Best of luck!

  • I have noticed recently that the more comfortable I am with my body through transition, the more open my sexuality has become. Before transition I primarily dated women and I just couldn't stomach being with another man for so reason, though I knew I had attractions to men. Now that I'm more comfortable with being I am able to explore my attraction to men better. Now I consider myself pansexual. My sister says she thinks I have to find a way to stay queer no matter what gender I am lol.

  • I can definitely say that my ideaology on physical attraction has changed once I came to terms with being trans. I've become way more open minded about the potential of that attraction- and that's without T ! (yet ;-) )
