@scarred10 Basically, he's simply presenting the details of a technique if one were to find oneself in this situation. He's not saying this is the answer every time. Often we prefer not to go to the ground unless it's absolutely necessary. If you get a chance to view some of Shihan Price's other videos, I think you will find your choice of words (rubbish) to be beyond inaccurate. Then again, you could always visit one of his seminars and find out for yourself :)
Trained people who know better might not expose their arms, and you can hear Mr. Price clearly say the same thing 1:18 ("Maybe he's 'stupid' and is already extending his hands") - or, he also indicates that by striking, the person very well might extend their arms to protect themselves or block, in which case you would take advantage. Actually, one may strike their opponent specifically to create that situation.
@robwfl its not as quick as the hands on chest which is ideal when the guy reaches up(it is allowed in grappling(not bjj)but nobody would do it because its suicide).I dont favour armbars for self defense, they arent sure finishers,ko or choke out to be certain.
@scarred10 Keep in mind Shihan Price doesn't focus on sport, but rather actual self defense - which in many cases, sealing (not just holding) the elbow is a very viable, and important part of the technique. And in many self-defense situations, it's quite possible someone would actually reach up and try to choke you like that (which is not allowed in the sport of grappling, much like the elbow strikes you see here, too) Good luck in your next match.
thats a very poor way of doing it,if a guy reaches up he has zero grappling ability and the spinning armbar works perfectly and twice as goo as this, you also dont finish by holding the elbow like that.TRADITIONAL JAP JITSU RUBBISH
