Iran clear Dutch test, move into R16

ENUGU, Nigeria: Iran defeated European powerhouse Netherlands 1-0 on Saturday to claim top spot in Group C and advance to the knockout stage of the FIFA U-17 World Cup here.

Milad Gharibi scored the only goal of the match for the Asian champions in the 25th minute.

Iran were on the go right from the opening whistle and Mehrdad Yeganeh almost found the net with a brilliant snapshot that curled away at the last minute.

In the 25th minute, Gharibi collected a pass from a quickly-taken freekick and surged ahead to put the ball past the Dutch goalkeeper Warner Hahn.

The advantage almost doubled for the Iranians a few minutes later when Hahn had to save a header from Yeganeh and then a shot from Kaveh Rezaei.

Soon after Saeid Lotfi had a good chance but ballooned his shot as Ali Doostis boys threatened continuously but were unlucky to cement their edge.

Iran coach Doosti was elated with the result that put this team in the Round of 16.

The team followed the instructions of the coaches, said Doosti. My wish is that one day my team will play like the Netherlands team because they have very talented players.

It is an honour for us to win this group because Netherlands are at the top of world football. It is an honour for me and my players to have won this match, and it is my best experience as a coach.

سومين ديدار تيم ملي فوتبال زير 17 سال ايران برابر هلند در جام جهاني، با حاشيه‌هايي همراه بود.
پيش از آغاز اين ديدار حدود 500 تماشاگر در استاديوم حضور داشتند كه با شروع بازي اين تعداد افزايش يافت و شمار تماشاگران به حدود 6 هزار نفر رسيد.

* با همكاري سفارت ايران در نيجريه، در حدود 500 تماشاگر نيجريه‌اي در حالي كه پرچم ايران را به دست داشتند، براي تشويق و حمايت از تيم ملي ايران به ورزشگاه آمده بودند.

* در شرايطي كه اين ديدار زير نور شديد آفتاب برگزار مي‌شد، مسوولان استاديوم "آزي كيوه" در اقدامي عجيب، پروژكتورهاي استاديوم را روشن كرده بودند كه اين امر موجب آزار بازيكنان دو تيم شد ولي با اين وجود بازيكنان بدون توجه به اين مساله به كار خود ادامه دادند.

* خبرنگار خبرگزاري اسپانيا، در جايگاه خبرنگاران حضور داشت و اين ديدار را پوشش خبري مي‌داد.

* مسوولان ورزشگاه "آزي كيوه" تعداد كمي از صندلي‌هاي VIP را به ايرانيان اختصاص داده بودند كه اين اقدام ناراحتي مسوولان سفارت و تيم ملي ايران را در پي داشت. در اين شرايط يكي از پرسنل سفارت ايران در نيجريه ايستاده بازي را تماشا مي‌كرد.

playing in europe isnt easy specialy for strong teams such as them a certain level of skill is required to achieve making these teams.

iran overall is one of the best teams in footbal in asia which they were in the time of ali daei they are not playing strongly recently due to political reason lack of managment and funding yet still they are ahead of saudi arabia in the world fifa rankings which get increidble funding and all the players are wealthy

iran has weaker domestic legue than saudi arabia, i think even qatar has stronger legue than iran. yet alone east asia.

ok hes good :L but i mean if u look at the iranian team as a whole about 5 years ago it would destroy saudi araibia nearly everytime we had ali daei world top international goal scorer ali karimi the persain maradona played for bayern and medi mahdavakia for frankfurt another 2 play for ossosona the reason iran does bad is due to the lack of funding for the team being a footballer wont get u enough to live on in iran and the players are devalued and have to have 2 jobs hence less time 2 practise
