in this day and age there are many alternatives to test medications and to practice surgery without having to torture animals in the process, in fact on computer based models the results are a lot more accurate and reliable the using animals, the only reason that animals continue to be used is because of lobbies from the producers of animals for this purpose (multibillion dollar industry!)
