House of the Rising Sun fingerpick lesson by Teague Purtell. Free material to go with video: http://www.musiclearning.com/guitar/fingerpicking/house.html

Mistake: part of the progression is missing in this video. The whole progression is this:

Am C D F
Am C E E
Am C D F
Am E Am C
D F Am E
Am E

It ends up being a 22 bar progression. All of the E's are really E7. I typed it like that so it would line up better and hopefully be easier to see the progression.

The Animals version has an 8 bar intro:

Am C D F
Am E Am E

The Animals recording ends with the last chord of the 22 bar progression being a Dm instead of E and then going to Am. It fades while going back and forth from Dm to Am (1 measure each)

I will probably redo the video so there isn't any confusion.

  • your fucking nail is scaring me.

  • now i can blay, rising sun, behind blue eyes, silent lucidy and hey there delilah, thanks dude!!!!

  • nice job dude

  • If you have an electric guitar and a PS3 or X360 get Rocksmith, this song is playable there.

  • At about 3:25 you mention the E7, but as far as i can see you press the A-string, second thread. And then you say to go from the first to the third string in the picking pattern.

So why push the middle finger on the A when you don't use the A-string?

    or am i missing something?

  • This was the greatest Guitar lesson, i've ever had :D

  • it s too fast

  • gah looks complicated i hope my laziness wont keep me from learning the fingerpickin stuff :/
