I was just watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AMCGWqLMkg and I was wondering if I could draw something like that in photoshop. Turns out I am an even more hack artist in Photoshop than in openCanvas.

  • Nice attempt, and thanks for the response :)

Tip: try to avoid the smudge tool, it can very easily become a crutch.

  • @vijil haha, fully understood. Don't you use the smudge tool? How long have you been using photoshop for?

  • @TraderEddy I use it sometimes, but rarely and only when there's no other real option. Photoshop um... I dunno, about ten years?

  • Smudge is the tool of destruction when you do sketches and paintings so yes, try to avoid it. And if you like to use the smudge then try to be very careful and combine with many dark colors and then use dodge and such but that requires a lot of training. Smudge destroys all the details but with help of dodge you can make details with lights. Its very easy to over do it. The best way is to use a standard brush with different opacity and paint in values.
