Helicoils or thread inserts are very useful if a tapped hole has become stripped of it's threads. By using the thread repair kit it is possible to repair the stripped thread so that the hole can accept a threaded bolt again. Brought to you by http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/

  • can i do this on my bikes crank arms??

  • @LFCLEWIS4

If you know what thread they are then you should be able to.

  • someone should do a vid on explaing how to figure out the kit u need and size. anyone can use them. i cant figure out witch kit to get. i kno its a 5mm hex allen head. and its 9mm long on the thread. but how the hell do you determine the thread size. m5 is 5mm i get that x 0.8 what the hell does that mean the 0.8 in my cause

  • @wolfgang29

The 0.8 is the pitch of the thread.

You have to get the correct thread size and pitch. Threads can be confusing as there are several different types such as UNC, UNF Metric coarse and Metric fine etc. Most metric sized bolts are coarse thread, so an M5 bolt would be 5mm*0.8 pitch. I'm not sure if there is an M5 metric fine helicoil, but on larger sizes such as M39 you can get a pitch of either 4 (coarse) or 3 (fine). Hope this helps!

  • You're the only one i've seen so far to use proper cutting fluid with the tap. You win the prize. Nice to see it done properly! Now to fix the cylinder head on my dolomite...

    Thanks!

Good luck with the cylinder head ;-)

  • Great stuff! Didn't even know these existed but could've used one a couple of years ago.
