It's a newbie app, I am aware, but it's the traditional "first" application to write when learning a new language, let alone a new platform entirely. This was incredibly easy, as I used the Hello World tutorial found here:
http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/hello-world.html
Getting the SDK installed on Ubuntu / Debian was rather tricky, so if you guys have any questions about that, maybe I can help. :-)

Android is so much better than my last Windows Mobile phone.

  • How is the touch screen keyboard? I love Android but I had to buy a G1 because of the QWERTY keyboard. And btw (to anyone) cool thing about Android is free phone calls and texts with Google Voice. All you have to do is buy the data plan.

  • Yeah, i need to get a G1, I cannot type anything at all. The software keyboards for 1.5 and 1.6 are awful. i upgraded to 2.0 and the keyboard was awesome, but the camcorder didnt work. so i ended up going back to 1.6

  • no, there are unlimited data plans, internet, messages etc are all covered. It is $25 to put your apps in the Google Android Market though.

  • Install Cyanogenmod on it and root it!

  • I did, but it so damned slow that i hate the phone altogether now.
